Madcap is a follow-up to Siegel’s year-long stint at Marin’s Rancho Nicasio previously, he was executive chef at Michael Mina, The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton, and other luminary Bay Area restaurants like Masa’s. Madcap opens tomorrow, centered around the Bay Area’s superior produce, with meat and seafood fitting in where they make sense. Decadent. After years of city fine-dining, chef Ron Siegel will debut his first solo project in San Anselmo. The banana bread with vanilla ice cream to top off dinner was such a great decision. The menu has a couple non meat selections and this was so tasty I didn't venture elsewhere. I ate the same entree each night during my stay which was the Tamari Glazed Spring Vegetables party because they were so delicious and partly because I don't eat meat. PSA: The starters seem to be single serve and if you do plan to split, definitely order 2 starters for 2 people. The scallops were also absolutely delicious. Super crispy on the outside, warm and moist inside. The blue crab cake was cooked to perfection. The garlic chips paired perfectly with it. The Ahi Tuna Poke was super fresh, melt in your mouth soft with a touch of spice which was unexpected. Highly recommended!ĭinner Starters: Ahi Tuna Poke, Blue Crab Cake, and Pan Seared Scallops. I enjoyed quite a few menu items during my stay which included the following from Breakfast:Ĭrab Cakes Benedict which is served with breakfast potatoes. Directly adjacent to the restaurant is a full service bar which has high priced selections like Louis XIII as well as the low and dirty ones like Jack Daniel's. There is an intimate vibe to the experience but it is also a good place to have a business dinner or casual dinner. The menu appears to be a very specific selected cuisine but what was great about it was the ingredients were mostly local. The restaurant is definitely has an upscale classy vibe. One area is deli/take-out counter service area with some round tables and to the left of the entrance there’s a sit-down waiter-service restaurant with a patio sitting. If anybody is allergic to sesame seeds or almond, you could ask one the staff to make those ingredients separately packaged for you, then they will make a new box of salad without those ingredients but on the side (in a ziplock bag) to take home. We often get Tofu Chinese salad for friends practicing Halal or Vegetarian. They have marinated tofu instead of chicken for the same salad for Vegetarian. The big box (looks like Chinese take out box) of CCS will suffice for 2 adults for dinner. Personally, Comforts Chinese Chicken Salad will be my deathbed meal as I crave for it every few weeks especially hot "I don't want to cook" summer days. I heard they sell easily 5-600 boxes of CCS per a day during summer months. During summer months, they sold 800+ salads and may not have ingredients left to make more in the kitchen. This is the best place to get Chinese Chicken Salad to go in hot summer days in Marin. On 90 degree hot summer days, the Chinese chicken salad & chicken okasan get sold out by 4:30 pm (on weekdays but close early on Sat & Sun). You may buy food and eat them on your own at the outside table/chairs.
